For one day only, step back in time to the 1820’s at New Lanark. Come and meet Robert Owen who has revolutionised the running of the mills here and introduced schemes designed to improve the lot of the millworkers. For Owen, education is very important and he is celebrating the opening of The Institute for the formation of Character which is where his workers can spend time after work improving their minds as well as socialising with a bit of dancing, of which approves.
Janet Winning, a teacher in his school, will be only too happy to tell you about the progressive education that Mr Owen provides to all children from the moment that they can walk unaided. Maggie and Bella who have worked at New Lanark since the time of David Dale are always keen to stop for a blether and tell you what lie is REALLY like!
Come along to this free event and discover the stories of life at New Lanark.
The event begins with Mr Owen welcoming you all at 11.15 in his wonderful Institute.
This is a free event suitable for all the family.
