We have been working with the Historic Environment Learning Team on the a World War I project since 2014. The project is aimed at helping pupils to investigate and ultimately understand why so many young men volunteered to go and fight. We look at the question of identity and how these young men saw themselves.
We have also used this opportunity to examine the lives of women who were VADs in this period and look at how their lives were also changed by the War.
This project has taken us to Edinburgh Castle, Fort George and now Dumbarton Castle and the Army Training Centre based in the old Drill Hall in Dumbarton where we will be working with pupils on 2nd November.
