As part of Luminate: Scotland’s creative ageing festival which supports and celebrates creativity as we age “Margaret’s Wardrobe” presentation is a reminder that the elderly in our community should not be marginalized and have much to offer us in life lessons and the joy of living.
Through Dr Lee’s opening up of Margaret’s Wardrobe, we meet a young woman who was a nurse in the late 1940s, an air stewardess in the glamorous 1950s when it was the most exciting of new jobs to have, a mother and a return to nursing in the 1970s, who had a secret passion and a creativity that was never fully appreciated.
Work on “Margaret’s Wardrobe” has underlined the absolute necessity of spending time collecting histories to understand ageing and more importantly help those ageing hang on to their identity for as long as possible. After all this is a path we are all on.
Come to the National Museum of Scotland on 31st October and find out the whole story.
